I think the last time I checked into bulk bar oil, a 50 or 55 gal drum was somewhere around $700 - $800. It was a savings of maybe $2 per gal or so.

Geez, that's over $12 a gallon. I just bought some at Auto Zone for under $7 a gallon.

Are you guys kidding about the veggie oil? I will go to SAMS today if that is for real!

Some guys have been doing it for years. you use a bit more, and it does not have the tacifier and anti-sling compounds in it either, so it does spray a bit more then petroleum.

I can get a 50 or 55 gallon drum for either $225 or $250. A buddy of mine was trying to talk me into it, but I don't have the room at the moment... so I'll probably just keep running down to the local hardware store and paying 13 or 14 bucks a gallon like a moron.

I can check into this if you're interested.

use the cheapest bulk oil you can find... veggie oil works fine, but not good for winter. stops flowing until it warms up.

bulk 15/40 diesel oil is closer to bar oil for thickness. purchased 500+ gallons of bulk oils from a quick lube going out of business. sold off most of it.. still got about 100 gallons left.

wouldn't be running out of bar oil anytime soon:D

That old fangled imperial system is worse than you think. There are Imperial gallons (Canada), and then there are "plain old" gallons (US).

Until I read this, I didn't even know about "Dry" gallons: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gallon

Dont worry, we are painfully aware of the us vs imperial gallon thing, we are a colonial nation that has alot of both Yank and Pom gear. Caused more than a little grief when filling american machines with british oil.

Little wonder we took to the metric system, you guys couldnt make up your minds!

When the metric system 'proves' itself, (200 years?) we will convert. :)

Tractor supply is 6.99 a gal. and most DoIt Best stores are about 7.50 and the have the winter blend

I'm so ana_ , er opinionated that I add a bottle of 'stp oil treatment' to every gallon, just to make sure it has enough sticky. Keeps from having an oil line though.

I probably don't get it mixed in very well, but I believe that it helps.

It was just on sale at the local farm store for $4.99 a gallon. Stihl mix was $7.99. I try and catch a sale like this once a year and stock up.
