Hello,
Can anyone recommend a seller of logs for firewood in NE Ohio? I am looking to buy a load of logs that will yield approx. 8 to 10 cords once cut and split. Any help greatly appreciated.

Chumley I don't know of anyone that I can refer you to but I would recommend checking out some of the Amish saw mills around Middlefield. Drive down Rt 534 and stop in and visit a few. I am sure they have reject piles. I get my wood from some local farmers that are always bulldozing down trees. They call me and I cut them up and haul them out.

Where do you live? I live in northern Trumbull county by Mosquito Lake. Stop by and I will show you my set up.

Hey Thombat...your contact lives in my neck of the woods. I live out by him but I work in Cleveland. What city do you work for/live in?
I'll bring my saws to work one day!

Hello WCA,

I live in Cleveland Heights and work in downtown Cleveland. I don't have a big owb like you...I have a fireplace insert. Been burning for about 3yrs now. Love being outdoors cutting and splitting. I stopped by your blog briefly, I'll have to go back and check it out some more when I get time. looks like some interesting stuff there:).

Chumley, where do you live? Middlefield has lots of wood activity, but you have tons of competition up there. Everyone burns wood.

I'm in Mantua (Northern Portage County). If you want to buy firewood poles, get ready to pay 600 bucks or so. Not too bad, but nothing special. The tree company I work for in the summer sells logs occasionally, but they are pricey. I could possible set you up with some "garbage" wood for free (cotton wood, poplar, maybe some elm, some hollow stuff, etc). I split by hand right now (so big nasty elms are out of the question) and don't touch "soft woods" since I sell the wood I cut.

Hey, I might be able to hook you up with some wood. The tree company I work for occasionally does jobs in Cleveland Heights, Beachwood and Shaker. If we are doing a big tree that might require dumping the chip truck, you may be able to snag some stuff to help conserve space in the chip truck. You would have to be there as we do it though. We can't leave stuff, too much of a liability and ya understand we are working for the home owner, so the place has be clean/done when we leave for the day.

Hey Andy,

Been a while since I heard from you. Always good to score free wood so I appreciate you looking out:clap:. I remember you do a lot of splitting by hand...you ever try one those Fiskars splitting mauls?

I'll send you a pm with my contact info if you're ever in my neck of the woods dropping trees...you never know when free wood will come your way so if I'm available I'm there!!:).

No problem, if it helps my work, it is a win-win situation for both of us. I have a fiskars, but still use my monster maul 80% of the time. Nice tool though.

Hello,
Thanks for the reply, I am interested in anything you might have, I am also in Portage CO. near Kent, so not too far. I would be willing to take a look anytime you would be available, just let me know.
Thanks

I used to visit my brother a lot when he was in school in Cleveland. I get hungry every time I see "Cleveland Heights." Now I have the urge to stop by Mama's Boy and get a Fun-in-a-Box.

Hmmm...you'll have to enlighten me on that one?:dizzy:

I don't even know if it's still there in Cleveland Heights, but after a night of bar hopping, Mama's Boy restaurant was perfect for a bunch of young bucks. Fun-n-a-Box was a white paperboard box filled with a few pieces of fried chicken, topped with french fries, and then it was drenched on top with the house BBQ sauce. Quality greasy food! :D

(sorry for the hijack)

Amish sawmills

I don't know this first hand, but I hear that you have much better luck getting slab wood from the amish in the summertime. I have heard that the going rate is free-10$ per bundle. As the weather starts getting colder, there is more competition as others have said.

no sense wasting firewood in the infidels when it is cold outside:)

Thanks

I will let the owner know you are interested. We used have a dump spot where we would just burn it and have a party. However, we don't have that spot anymore, so it is piling up at the shop.
