Was out in the mountains with momma & junior, riding ATV's. We came across a dead box elder with a big burl. It's not actually box elder, but that's what the locals call it. It's a maple & has leaves similar to box elder, but the wood is very dense, heavy, & hard like sugar maple. Always keeps a smooth gray bark, too, like young sugar maple. Anyway, milled it into slabs today. Not too shabby for a tree that was gonna rot away.

Now that you've got it, what are you going to do with it? Turning stock? Almost looks like bird's eye in one photo. Burls can be amazing!
