A lot of you folks know about Dan Osman - yes?

Died - but a legend.

The past year, I was wondering if someone could climb the giant redwoods and sequoias free-climb style. But this guy didn't come to mind.

A thought came tonight to watch him on Youtube:

And after watching a couple of videos with him in it, I thought, hey, some arborists, and even Steve Sillett the redwood researcher, could get rid of their ropes if they could learn to climb like this guy.

Seriously, I'd like to see if someone this good at free climbing, could actually make it up the furrows of a large coastal redwood.

ive said it before, and i'll say it again.

the man had testicles. big ones. possibly the biggest of that genre of all time.

yet this challenge comes from a guy who uses a step ladder to do his treework.

cmon md. the only reason you can climb a tree the way you say is because you are not carrying any equipment.

the best part of rec climbing is repelling out the tree or swingn from branch to branch. you cant do that without a rope bub.

Its more amusement than anything.

But whenever I watch that guy climb, its refreshing in it's own way.

Probably because his conditioning makes it look so effortless.

I used to love solo climbing, it made sence to me as I couldnt afford the gear, didnt often have people to climb with and it felt pure, rather than messing with a whole heap of equipment, extra weight and time trying to get gear in.

quit while I was ahead.
