The Nati, Oh Hi, Yo
Life often is all about how you perceive it.

Lately I have come to the realization that, besides off season severe storms that happen too infrequently, my money time is April through November.

This is just 8 months. But this gives a lag period of 4 months and, depending how you perceive it (or use it), can be considered a bit of a va cay shion.

But conversely this means you gotta bust ass for the 8 months, which ain't a bad thing imo. I like to bust ass....but with a little break in mind,....like a rain day gives ....only 4 months long.

Pre pay all your bills in the fall for winter. Don't take breaks off for 8 months (like vacations, or even 3 day weekends) and just be as productive as humanly possibly.

The worse things in life can often stem from financial difficulties. Hey, duh, I'm gonna be slow in those 4 months....make hay while the sun shines.

Too long of a break if you ask me. I had some projects, and hoped for some winter work, but I'm not sitting through another winter like that.

Next winter, I'm going to either work seasonal for the power company, or help a buddy with his ROW gigs. I'll be taking december off, but after the first of the year I'm working somewhere. Even if I have to pack it up and go help someone down south.

But here's to making it while the sun shines....

Man, I hear that. I've been doing my own thing forever now it seems (going into year 14 now, actually) and I still haven't figured out a way to keep winter from making me feel like a helpless victim!

Every year I tell myself it's gonna be different. And every year I wind up damn near finished by the end of it all. This winter was one of the worst ever actually.

But yeah, best make hay when the sun shines. Better be good with your money too, if you expect to survive this gig very long!!

I bow hunt for the first couple months and keep my self occupied pretty well but once deer season is over come january i start going koo koo in the head money gets tight etc, etc, start second guessing so on and so forth . BUT once the sun starts shining and the weather straightens up hope rears its head once again!!!!:smile2:

yeah it is a little different animal in the warmer locations. only neg I can see is the warm season is longer and hotter than here.

For us Jan, Feb and 1/2 of march are usually dead. Which is ok. This year was super dead. Years before were pretty busy through the winter. We are pretty much full tilt right now. Just finished a big job and have a nice full day planned tomorrow. Snowing now though. Hope to do a little plowing next winter to even things out a little.....

Yeah I bought a plow just before the first snow when a big driveway owner asked me if I plowed. Got it bout half way paid off.

I am happy with starting at around 9 or 10 and working till maybe 3 or 4. Average about 3 days a week. Sell a nice stash of firewood every year and just enjoy it.

I like to get up and put on my ski bibs, stoke up my wood add on furnace and relax before work.

I really love winter, if the money lasts. But if not it can get a little anxious. I spent a load of money last fall counting on selling my old crane after buying a replacement.

It finally sold...but it got a little tense.

Now I am full bore like you and loving it.

TV, im with ya!
Being from Iowa, big ag state(duh)! The banks do this 8 month payment schedule where they take yur bad 4, divide it into yur good 8, raises the payment a bit, but then you dont have any payments during crap time. I am not on this, but am gonna switch, I mean why not! Easy to make the money in the good 8!

I remember back in the late eighties and nineties being booked up at least three weeks out and sometimes six weeks out year round. We had more work than we could do. Things started to change around 1994 for the worse and now Dec. thru Feb. sucks every year.

I have a few things at a little farm bank that do that, I have used it in the past. They dont report to the credit companys wich is nice if you have to watch your debt to income. I can walk in tell my banker I want this and be out in 15 min.
