can any of you post pics of your bf mods so i can see what is safe and allowed as far as swl goes and ce rating, also specs of stuff used would be nice.

There is a lot of dsicussion as to whether mods are qualified as being "safe" because they were not tested in that configuration.

What people who do is install material that they know meets or exceades that which is being replaced.

ISA will not allow modified saddles in competitions now without the manufacturers signing off on the mods.

So as far as CE goes, your probably SOL.

I would ask the people that will be testing your gear if the will sign off on mods if you are replacing with like strengthed material, e.g. double braid rope for the bridge with a stronger MBS

I showed my Butterfly to a good old climbing friend... He's been using the same saddle, which he bought used, for over 15 years...
I handed him the Butterfly so he could feel the weight.... The light went off as his eyes openned and he said something like "WOW"...
The next thing he said, pointing to the red bridge... "how long before this thing werars out???"
He's a little strange and very perceptive... That bridge is a wear item...Bound to happen..

Rplacing the bridge with webbing would be allowable here to, since that is how Komet approves.

We do need to get some testing on some of the gcommon ways we modify these tools.

More people are tieing bridges on their Master saddles now too,

The problem w/ that mod, is it expensive for what you get, i think it 's like 50 bucks, which only costs about 17 to make yourself, and it only comes in one length. I prefer mine shorter, so i've made the same thing, just shorter, and i got rid of the original aluminum rings, instead i chose bow shackles, of the no snag variety.

It does cost a lot for what you get, but thankfully, I got it for far under $50. No way I would get another. Next time, I am going for something a little more customized. I am looking at modifying the parts where your shackles connect.

Nice mod.

RJS,

I think Little Witch over at proclimber has some Beal you could get sent over if you wanted to try it out.

So far as Yale, Samson, and NE ropes are concerned we get to see quite a few, our suppliers over here are very pro active and do all they can to get what we want.

Common ropes in UK - Yale XTC, XTC +, XTC 12, XTC Fire, XTC Arborgold, NE Hi Vee, Fly, Blue Streak, True Blue, Beal Boabab, Maverick, Marlow Ropes, there are others but the ones above are the most common.

Tree tx thanks for the compliment, but thank tom, it was kinda his idea originally... I couldn't find the saddle adapt you linked us to and i don't read german, or whatever that was...

that last mod is the one ive been describing, but the beal regate isnt strong enough(ce,ansi) and not rated as static rope. i need to find a bit of rope that is. if i use climbing line the fishermans is too bulky. i did try the the climbing line 13mm tthrough the rings with a fishermans stopper knot so it cant pull through, but i had it too short and the side of the back support dug into my sides and gave me big friction burns on my love handles so has been scrapped until i can find a stronger thinner rope or i can be bothered to try the second mod again. ps, thanx for all replies.
