Hey guys, wondering what the story is on the Granberg mill rail material (pic below). I haven't been able to find a supply of it and would like to extend my mill to fit a larger bar. I've read about using 80/20 and that would work too, but I'd like to use the same material the mill came with if possible. As always, thanks for the insight.

Yeah it's almost $100 (probably over with shipping) for the 48" rails from them. I understand they have a business to run and all but if I can find the same rail material in bulk for cheaper I'd like to use that instead.

I went with the 8020 stuff. It is stronger, better quality material. Had to modify my granberg tbolts to make it work, could've ordered 8020 bolts as well, but didn't know till after the rails arrived. Also if you're thinking of any other mods the 8020 stuff opens up a world of opportunity. I've seen some sweet looking mills made out of just 8020 stuff. I'd of done that, but found an old MKIII granberg in a barn and got it for free as it was missing the rails and handle.

80/20 looks like a good material to work with, how did you modify the bolts Rob? Would the 80/20 bolts fit with existing mill components?

I'm not opposed to working with with 80/20, just more curious where someone can find the Granberg rail material in bulk?

I'm sure the granberg stuff is out there with all the chinese clone mills that are using the same profile. My search brought me to the 8020 stuff first, I liked the look of it better strength wise, and could get it quickly. The profile of the tslot is narrower on the 8020 stuff so the heads had a visit with the bench grinder to bring the diameter of them down to fit. Easy enough fix. 8020 has a lot of different series and profiles, so make sure you look through and get the stuff that best suites your needs if you go that route. I went with item/part number 30-3001 with just a tslot on one side. They make it with slots on two or four but wanted maximum strength. I can see where adding some accessories would be easy with added slots though.
