So, I'm gonna buy some new rope, but I've got a couple questions.

A guy locally has some rope about 100' lengths, but he says its a poly plus. Break strength of 4,200lbs, and is 1/2". Life span of 7 yrs, at 80%.

I'm curious, what is poly, plus? And can I safely climb with that?

Thanks,

Jeff

What Tre said. 5400 mbs for tree work and most ropes guys are now using are substantially stronger than that. The short coin you would save just isn't worth it.

Gonna end up @ baileys looks like. Unless someone knows a cheaper supply somewhere. They look pretty decent though. Thanks everyone.

If I had thought I could climb it, I probably wouldn't have asked. lol Glad there are people like you all here.

Thanks,

Jeff

Figure out what rope you want then check the different site sponsors for their prices. Maybe shoot for a price range although folks are right in that it is one of the single most important purchases you will make so don't skimp. You can get good line from $100-$150. Decide how long, typically 120' or 150'. Stick to Samson, New England and Yale. You can't wrong with either of those 3 manufacturers in that price range for arborist ropes.

Check out the Sherrill catalog, for a complete listing of most all climb lines, including specs.

I climbed on rope similar to poly-plus, back in the 70's......

no thanks!
