just about the time big shot came out, I was pondering similar ideas, and when I saw the BS in sherrill, I copied it the best I could, and yes, they get a thumbs up in my book.
However, I've just about finished my latest prototype line launcher, and I'm working on the patent app. right now. first shot, accurately, precicely, at anywhere to 300 feet. more if you've got any reason for it.
I cant discuss details right yet, because I don't have the patent yet, but I think I've got a real winner here.
Once I find out about the patent, I'll let ya know, mabye someone would be interested in helping me get it out on the market so we can all have one.
It's cost to make, should put it on the market for half of what the big shot costs.
and if I don't have much luck with the patent, marketing, etc. I'll just have to come back and let you know the specifics, so you can make your own, its really simple.

I smell a troll.....

That said, Blake Thomas of Portland, many years ago, fabricated a huge slingshot, which would shoot 100-150 or more feet, and that is with a 20 ounch pouch and the big slick line of that era. Figure 300 easy with light line and pouch.

And our missing in action down under bud Graeme McMahon, has built a rig with 2 Big Shot heads, that gets him way up in those monster 300 foot eucs that he is so famous for his work in.

I think he even exceeds Oxman's range with his crossbow.

Sounds to me like a guy who is getting taken off for both his idea and what money he has by a patent mill.
Go over to Google and search for "dsiclosure statement" and file one yourself on your new invention. That way you'll be protected, and can discuss the device with manufacturers.
Patents on first generation systems and devices ain't worth crap if you don't have a lot of litigation money to protect your patent.

actually, netree, i was sort of hoping to put your money where my mouth is.:)

You'll have to earn it! I'm not one to jump on new gadgets every time they come out just because someone CLAIMS it's better. I think you'll find that to be a common denominator among AS'ers.

If you're serious, follow Franz's advice. Then hit up some trade shows and SHOW us it's better.

netree is so right. Not good to solicit online or to people you don't really know. Set up a demo in front of investers or at a trade show as everyone said. Do you have a pic or is that sealed in the Funken Wagnells valt?

If this has anythign to do with CO2, then Jerry Beranek is already doing it with nerf like projectiles for entering redwoods and the like.

I have not seen it, but Frans probably has

I'd like to have something that could put a BlackWidow line 70-90 ft up, for a quick notch and flop.

It takes a lot of weight to make the end run down though the tree. CO2 and paint ball mechanics/ Potato Gun, but more costly than Big Shot.:(

Keep us posted,
Brian

Most small trees I can pull over with my Spectra throwline. I've done it for years on smaller trees, but on this past storm job I've found that even some pretty hefty trees can be pulled with it using a carabiner and a high shot.

1700# test and a high tie, I think make it fine for the most trees I've done.

Just let the line run around and pull both ends.

The hank I have was 200ft, but I've nibbled the ends off over the past 4 years.

Well, I've been egg intolerant for years and have rescently come to the conclusion that I'm dairy intolerant.

This limits the range of preparied meals so far that I'll chew on anything on the jobsite:p

Actually I've found that when pulling the slipknot with my theeth the fibers in the spectra line will irritate my throat.

so you guys are interested in such a device, and I should indeed work toward this idea that I could be succesfull in the all time dream that my idea will sell. that's probably one of the most common fantasy's on the planet, but i really do believe I've got a winner here, and its probably just a matter of getting it out there before the nexxt guy.

Have you ever looked into getting a patent? It's an expensive process. Very time consuming. Seems do-able. I'd reccomend NOT getting a patent lawyer, as this will just make the cost skyrocket!

The patent office seems like they have a good process of making sure you have your act together.

Good luck. We all look forward to a faster, easier, cheaper way of getting our line set.

ps- Can I put a patent on a trained squirrell?

about the patent lawyer, that is part of the reason I'm gonna go ahead and take this one all the way , instead of just telling y'all about it here, and now.
You see, just as I had my prototype useable enough to start using and testing, perfecting, I get a job working for, ??????..
YES, a god@#$% patent lawyer. until now i wouldn't even know how to go about getting ahold of one of them, but when this guy shows up in my life at the same exact time as my idea is screaming "patent me" along with anyone who I show it to, I've decided to treat this client extremely well. :)
I'll try to hurry, I almost feel like an ass for not sharing it with y'all now so we can all be using one tomorrow, but you cant blame a guy for trying to turn an idea into an income of some sort, right?

live the dream

I habitually spend money on ANYTHING that's new, that can make my job easier and allow me to spend more time on the care of trees. Let me know when its a go. If it's the same price, or better, than a bigshot, I'll buy it sight unseen. -TM-
