It even affected the volcano.

The smoke you are seeing is from California however as a professional I can see by the photos there is a misunderstanding. We have 425,000 to 450,000 acres on fire right now BUT 250,000 acres of that is FEDERAL land. The smoke you are seeing is federal smoke and belongs to the Ag and Interior Departments. That smoke is property of your employer and thus it is really yours. I do hope you do something about it sooner than later.

We have over 1,400 active fires as of today with 19,000 firefighters on the job. The Indians fire just south of us has colored our skies for weeks. We aren't complaining. Just coughing. A lot.

Just trying to clear the air here.

The smoke from Nor Cal is finally thinning out down here in Douglas County. Sunday and Monday alike, visibility was down to 1.3 miles. But it also didn't help that we had our own fires helping that as well. Got them all out though, as of today. 100% dead.

Last year we were really bothered by smoke here in Texas coming in from Mexico from farmers burning their fields.
As if we don't have it bad enough with their main exports, but who would thought of that?

So the tree huggers would rather employ Firefighters than Loggers. Can't see the justification to risk life, limb, homes and scorch the earth; wasting a renewable resource.

Hey Slowp...

Let us know if the smoke thins out and we'll send you some more. We still have over 1000 active fires in the state and we can spare some for you. We can spare a lot, actually.

Check out CalFire's website. Most of the time their information is pretty good.

Here's a good website called wildlandfire.com. It integrates it all. If you want to read a lot of whining, click on They Said. But you'd best get out the cheese and violins for that one. It gets old fast. Our air cleared up with an excellent natural fireworks show the other night. Unfortunately, I'll probably show up for work next month and find a bunch of bodies sleeping in the drainfield. That's the way I find out if we have a fire going here. It takes a bit of smoldering after one of those storms to get a fire here. And, we still have lots of snow. I tested the response time of the LEO with the winch on Thursday after 3 hours of shovel practice. A strange thing to do in July. I owe him cookies.

What, like Warshington didn't export a few billion tons of St. Helen's ash a few years ago?

If your fence had been able to contain your ash it could have kept the smoke out also.

.

Shoot, can still see across the valleys, whats the big deal?
This spring we had an ENORMOUS dust cloud from Mongolia/china.Incredibley thick, didnt smell like a local fire, but sure looked like it.
Fire hazard is up here finally after a long spring/stealth summer, but I dont believe theres any fires to speak of.
Oh wait, there was 10 acres of black spruce in anchorage, blamed on boozed up bums, made the condo owners a bit nervous.
Smoke/dust is no fun, specially with air inversions

It wasn't ash. It was badly needed minerals spread about to make the land more fertile. Nature's way of crop dusting. The east part of the country should have paid us for that.:)

Well shoooot. That smoke is just a visibility enhancer. Without it you wouldn't even know that the air was even there!

It's also a way of exporting trees without using any petro products or adding to gridlock.

Algore ain't got nothing on us I tell ya!!

:)
