Am I the only one here that is so used to a saw without a chain brake that when it gets accidentally activated I scratched my head for a minute or two wondering why it plugged when there was very little stray chip on the saw?

My experience flush cutting stumps wasn't very fun. Cut till the saw plugged. Clear chips. Cut more. Dig dirt. Cut more. Pick a tick off me. Curse the chain brake. Curse the dirt for dulling my chain. Sharpen chain. Cut more. Remind myself why I decided to do this. Finish cutting. Get vengeance by burning chink of stump.

I need a bigger saw for the 20 inch cedar stumps.

Just ticks!
Bah!
Have pics coming of.........................cedar stump ants, oh joy, oh joy, ohhhhh joy.........

:chainsawguy:

(man I hate them, if nothing else on this planet, I dunna care if they'll survive beyond us, little bitin' beggars :p )

I am now apparently a carrier, judging by the party in my car, gear, house, clothes, etc. etc.... Really wish they were just the wee sugar ones, really do. :(

WTF did he say?

btw......Whats a chain brake?

.

stupid

I think the saws you have will work well.

part of it is technique. plunge cut into the stump in the cleanest spot rotate around the stump with the chain pulling from the inside out. this minimizes the dulling effect of the dirt. Once you are in far enough drive a wedge in the kerf to keep it open

Thats all there is to it.

But I can't turn da chain inside out cuz I is stoopid.

I suppose that would help the dulling effect on the chain. Too bad plunge cutting the thing makes me over halfway done with the stump.

Nope. I picked up a Husky 51 for my small saw. It had a chainbrake, the first one I ever had. For stupid I couldn't figure out what the problem was in the lot, used my mid saw for the rest of the day then put it on the bench. Finally _pried_ the cover off. It is about then that the light dawned as I slapped myself in the forehead. Put it in the bench vise to reset. Yes, I have a very bad case of 'flat forehead syndrome"
