Can a A041 mount bar be made to fit a A074 mount saw easily?

Have tried to compare these patterns as best I can and apart from the tail shape (broader) on the A041, the stud and oil holes and the slot width look the same. Does anyone know for sure please? What I'm thinking is if I can grind the transition/tail width of the A041 to make it fit for the faster and narrower transition of the A071 without having to mess with any of the holes or slots. I may run out of groove depth as I taper the tail transition down but I don't know yet.

Any help much appreciated. Thanks.

You are on the right track in your thinking. The a tail (and chain) really needs shortened a bit to be wide enough for the oil input spot. If we are talking 3/8lp chain the stihl link count is less 55 vs 56 so it may work out the same. I did one and still had a bit of metal connecting top to bottom after shortening. I don't recall if I drilled another hole for the adjuster for the A tail, do for the K.
A K041 will work out better. Maybe not so for a 6 tooth though.
Going the other way the Stihl slot needs lengthened.
As you can see from the picture I plug the upper hole for the adjuster with stick epoxy. Knead it press it in and cut it off with a wood chisel before fully set. In some cases the central portion of the fill can be removed leaving room for the adjuster and plugging the I believe lubridam it is called capped off. The pencil mark for the oil hole in my design is fully penetrate lower and slot/groove up a bit to catch the oil input. Modify as needed.

I bought a slightly used MS170 and it came in a case with lots of oil in the bottom along with the original burned bar and chain. It had a new Oregon bar on it with an S56 chain and 2 new S55 chains, which according to the package, should fit the MS170. The bar had no oil hole and oil was not making it into the bar groove. I finally figured out it was an A041 and should be an A074. I ground a little off the tail so that the S55 chains will just fit and added the oil holes on both side of the bar so it can be flipped. It seems to be working fine, but I haven't taken it out limbing yet.
