don't see why not. i have a harbor freight one I was going to rig up - $30 for a raker grinder seems about right. Haven't done it yet though. the box is buried....

i was just wondering if the wheel up be stood straight upright or if it can only be at an angle, can the harbor frieght one stand straight up?

Nope.. cant be stood straight up. it's set at 1 angle. You can adjust the grinding depth of it though. I have used to knock down some rakers...not very good, but it did the job.

im pretty good at hand filing them. just wanting something that is the exact same every time. won't be using it for sharpening chains because i hand file them

Here's a pic of my two Northern grinders, one of them set up for depth gauges. Their directions are pretty sparse on the subject. You can download the Oregon manual with it is a knock off of and the subject is addressed in more detail. Then out of respect for Oregon, you should purchase something they make. I have a tendency to take too much off using the grinder, so I usually do it by hand.
