Have about 17-18 feet between these two oaks. Think I have enough space for two green giant arborvitae? Thanks in advance for all replies.

You have enough room. You may need to muck around a bit to get a planting hole big enough due to the roots. If you need to because of the oak roots, I would suggest you plant the aborvitaes a little shallower and bring in some soil to raise the surrounding grade. Don't do this more than about 4".

Most arborvitaes are not very shade tolerant, I'm assuming the oak canopies are high enough that they won't totally shade out the arborvitaes.

Oh yeah, the oaks are huge. So instead of digging hole as deep as I'd normally dig, l I should dig hole 4 inches more shallow left and then bring bring dirt in to raise grade around rest of root ball? What will that do? Thanks for your reposnse. I'm new to all this.

I ran into a huge stump that had been covered up over the years. I just put one in and hope she grows tall and wide to close as much as the gap as possible. Thank you
