Don't know if this is the appropriate forum or not but......

Any how, if someone could offer some suggestions, I'd appreciate it. I'm looking for some thing hardy that does'nt require as much water as the conventional kept lawns. I like the the natural look and if there's a commercially available native grass, I'd find that preferable.

I forget my zone but I'm in southern Idaho on the Snake River plain i.e., desert.

You might try Buffalo grass or Crested Wheatgrass. Both are very drouth tolerant and native to the upper plains.

Yes Buffalo or Creasted Wheat Grass. There also is a native Idaho Fescue mix available for your area.

You can look on the web at sumarkseeds.com if you need a contact, email and ask for Robin Cook. He can help you out. There also are a few local seed suppliers in the Boise area that can help you out as well. Best time is to seed spring, may need to water some to get it through fist germination time to establish.

Good luck, However I also do agree that the new infill synthetic turf is available in a residential product, that is 1 1/2" in height, goes over an aggregate 5/8" minus, and then infilled with a sand or sand and rubber mix. Always green, no water, and no herbicides, or pesticides. Some cities now have a grant program to help people go to this to save water, depends on your community and location.

Good Luck
