you can never have enough carabiners. every time i see a new one i buy a pair..........always a pair:)

Oh Butch..... You really ought to try a tress cord and biners. tHe split tail method realy IS better. I know the tautline works-I used it for over 20 years but this 'new school stuff isn't like "new math" It actually gets the job done in an efficient and logical fashion. If you are really good on a tautline you'll be a little better, a little faster and a little less tired at the end of the day after working "new school for a few days.

Favorite 'biner Omega Jake- If that were a key lock gatenose design it would be THE perfect 'biner.

aye

aye i agree you should try the new school system

(cos then you wont be a hack anymore and you will know what you are doing :D , and then i willlisten to you)

I always say this, but I like most biners if they have a smooth keylock system. Dmm has one I LOVE that is a wire lock system. But carabiners that snag.....I just hate 'em!

I like the new DMWhales captive, the ISC captive eye, william triac, and last a petzl ball lock. If I were to mention my air locks I may get harassed about not being double lock so we'll keep those little guys a secret.

i like my stubai screw gates,i get slapped around every time i mention it here:angel: generaly i like the ones that i havnt used on the end of a work line.

Aussie, I won't slap you about the Screwgates. So they don't comply with the American National Standards Intitute standard for Arboricultural operations-That DOES NOT mean they are dangerous. I prefer Triacts/double locking biners that automatically lock but screw gates don't frighten me. Quarter turn twist locks are another matter. They aren't designed to prevent being opened by your rope or twigs. They were designed to prevent opening from rope slap when a rock climber falls into his rigging. Twigs CAN definitely open them. (They are still cool mechanical devices)

Looks like you stumble on to some usefull gear there Butch. Those scissor things on the right I would sell off at ebay or a yard sale what are they for? I don't own anything like that.

I reconize that old steel snap. That might make a snap for chaisaw for my boss.

Hey Butch, the arbo museum just called. They're looking for artifacts for their "primitive arborist relics" collection. :D

gate clips?

In the bottom of your tool box...seems to suggust you used them once.....The big steel one might be good for the dog running around at a site but, not on my shift...

I just got a ball lock( first time i tried one), want it for the rescue 8 in the back loop of Aussie's old harness...i droped the 8 tring to get it off, swapping back to the screwgate for that...I would get used to it, but maybe i have too big a hands? need a button the size of a golf ball.. (for behind my back)
I proberly got used to an "ovel" shape ( the 8 allways hung down, the Ball is to round..And could be anywhere..

Love the tri locks for my lines, I mentioned once before, i had a rope inside a screwgate once...Must of "rolled" the gate, and was in there??Quite the wake up call..

Short of a padlock, IMO the safest available, is trilocks

Take care with whatever your using, nothing is foolproof..Nothing un breakable. Dont rely on "Statments" by manifactures either..
and if you replace them...DESTROY them...If it's no good for climbing it no good for "lowering" either... (OR YOUR DOG) That way they wont end up in the bottom of your tool box, someone eles might pick it up and pass it to you...Or worse...USE IT THEMSELVES....

I tried to break one in a vise once....9" grinder was easier.. (alloy)
No visable signs of damage, but it did get dropped and hit( by the tree) from 45m (onto rocks)..Am i just paronoid? how much "flogging" Do you guys give a biner before replacing it??

"saftey freak" Derek...
