I am looking for some information for my 346xp. As far as setting my Hi speed jet with a Tachometer. I assume there a "magic" RPM I set to with the bar off the saw. My saw is still unmodified. Any help/links would be appreciated.

Steve here...
I only tach my saws in the wood..under a load... I NEVER free rev them out of the wood, for more than a blip of the throttle. Your just looking for trouble. My owners manual states not to run the 066 wide open without a load for at least a tank of gas or two... I myself will never do it. I set the high speed mixture by ear, under a load

if its cutting real good ,let it be. if not
adjust at your own judgement.
sure is a good saw tho, to guess with.
im sure some of the experts here can tell u top end no load rpm. but the low setting is a big contributer to proper lubrication.
my understanding is to get as rich as will run rite,on the low settings.keep it running by raising idle screw.lean equeals heat, with less lube. a little of that is good ,but too much is the loss of your saw.an understanding by a nonmechanic
, admitted.

I have a couple of tachs, I have never actually needed one to set a chainsaw carb. Do not keep the thing all out unloaded more than long enough to hear when you are to the rich side of max rpm, a little gurggling (spell?) Then see how it handles a load. I like to favor running a little rich, though the EPA doesn't.

I also like to read the plug after a couple of tanks of fuel; look for tan color.
