I just bought a loop of Stihl RD carbide. I also ordered a diamond wheel to sharpen it on my Oregon grinder. Does anyone know what the angles are?? I know they are different that regular steel chain and I've searched here but can't find the answer.

Thanks,
Kevin

I have a list of angles for different kinds of stihl chain, that came with the stihl sharpener that I have.

I will check and see if it is listed.

Ok, I have the 33RD but can anyone translate Stihls grinder angles into Oregon angles for all of the Stihl carbides please. I plan on sharpening carbide for other people as well once I get a feel for it.

Hey Kstill361,

Have you had any response following this post? I'ver recently ordered a diamond wheel from Amazon to touch up my newly acquired RD chains. I'll be using the chains tomorrow for the first time on hard, dry, brittle wood. I'd love to know what angles to use on my Oregon grinder. I know that the two angles don't translate well -Stihl's are "backwards", i.e. measure from the 90 degree "other side"...

what is the carbide chain like to cut out of the box,is it as good as full chisel any noticeabill difference?

No way, it's almost as bad as running a std chain backward as far as cut speed.

I wouldn't run that stuff unless you need it, such as a fire department roof cutting saw.

thanks ChoppyChoppy for reply a few customers have asked about it we told them it was for emergancy services was starting to doubt what we heard about it

but your carbide chain on the grinding machine and adjust your angle of the vice to suit the angle of the chain so the wheel angle is the same as the new chain angle, than adjust the depth hope this helps . will work on any chain style

Just got a Stihl carbide chain, seems to cut just as well as a normal chain.
I too have an Oregon sharpener and was planning to throw the chain on it and adjust untill it looked right.
It looks like it's a standard 60° grind to me.20211029_170310.jpg
