I took the muffler off of an old saw that i have, and was inspecting the piston and cylinder the best that i could. the cylinder looked good and i couldnt see any streaks down the side of the piston but did notice a little bit of carbon build up on the surface of the piston is this anything to be concerned over? I have gone to using mixima oil now after reading one of the articles on here saying that they weren't getting any buildup after using this oil. Its an old saw only planned on using it for parts anyway but still wondering.

Old saws that have a lot of hours, especially ones that use rich oil/gas mixtures, carbon up over time. Nothing unusual there, as far as I know.

Good luck with that Optima oil. Just don't do anything crazy like use a 100:1 ratio.

Im using it at 32:1, hoping to get more protection on engines now.
