I actually find alcohol to work just as well for varnished fuel sometimes even better, however I don’t have it in a pressurised can do in this case I used carb spray. Alcohol is excellent in tanks etc.
Funny you should mention that. I’ve got a Husqvarna 140S I’m resurrecting that’s got some fairly heavy varnish in the fuel tank. Did a little research and MEK is supposed to be the bees knees for dissolving varnish. Pretty nasty stuff but if it works I’ll be happy.

Be careful, acetone will do bad things to lots of plastics. I'd spot check it first.

Is the fuel in Australia blended with ethanol too? Or is that just a foolish thing pushed on Americans by our government?

Reason I ask is the yellow snot on the screen looks a lot like "ethanol poisoning" I see in carbs here.
Na we don’t get ethanol out here in this state :)

I've seen those screens inside a chainsaw carb clog and that stuff get past a good in tank fuel filter.
I inspect the screen very good with a magnifying glass or just go ahead and remove the screen and make sure it's clean.
I've seen a strange mold grow inside magnesium gas tanks and clog those screens fast. (and the clog will be overlooked if just a casual glance inspection)
Carb will usually act like it's starving for fuel when the saw is under a load and may set and idle good.
