Someone said they had a Carlton 254 for sale recently and I couldn't find any info on it. Was there a Carlton 254 stumper made about 2 years ago? He said it's got a 27Hp Kohler. What would one in very good condition w/ 140 hrs. on it be worth? Also, is this a good stumper/any known problems w/ this thing?

Probably a 2500-4.

To give you an idea of what it's worth, I sold my Rayco 1625 (with 27 hp kohler) which is a very similar machine last year. It had over 1000 hours on it but I had replaced much of it including the engine, battery, hoses, bearings, belts, cables, hydraulic pistons, and more. It had the dual wheels and a trailer. I sold it for $7,200.

If you're looking to just do some stumps on the side it's a great machine. 27 hp just isn't going to be strong enuf to keep up with the big boys tho.

Was that normal wear & tear at 1,000 hrs. for your machine? How long do these mid. size (25-27 Hp) stumpers last for, assuming they're well taken care of?

We used the heck out of it today, compared to the 252 which we use all the time, the 2500-4 seemed to grind easier, but it could be the teeth and would be apples to oranges. It seemed to have more Hp but it's also newer and is 27 Hp vs. the 252 which we use is 25. The steering on the Carlton was not nearly as good as the 252 single rear tire. All in all, I liked it alot. I've done some research and $7,500 seems like a fair price for both buyer/seller for a 2 yr. old 27 Hp stumper w/ 140 hrs. on it. It comes w/ neither dual tires or a trailer though.
