I have a 1997 Carlton 4400 tow behind and tried to install lopro 900 series greenteeth. The lead pockets without the teeth are hitting the housing and will not work. Just wondering if anyone has run greenteeth on an older 4400 Tow behind. The grinder wheel seems to be offset a 1/2", bearings, shaft and wheel are correctly installed.

I would call greenteeths direct line. They're customer service is the best.

I talked to greenteeth about the machine and I think I will have to stick with standard teeth

The 900 low pro are a little bit taller than the 1100 series. I have this same problem with the Vermeer SC752. Solution, don't install the lead teeth or run 1100's or just 1100's for the lead.
Or you can cut out the part of the frame that the teeth are hitting and weld in a flat plate.

The 900 clear in the top just not on the side the 700 low pro have less than 1/8" clearance on the pulley side of the housing, I have not tried the 1100 since the 900 will not clear without the teeth. The wheel sits an 1 more to the left than the right for some reason. I have wondered about running the 900 series without running the lead teeth

It looks like the pattern is simply 2 pairs of pockets, one high one low and no variation beyond that.
I think you can run straight pockets and it should grind just fine.

thanks for you reply I was hoping someone with a similar year model would have some advice on the issue

It looks like the cutter wheel was moved over during a bearing install. The cutter wheel should be in the center and then the Green Teeth shouldn't be a problem. You'll have to drop the cutter wheel and loosen the hub and the move the cutter wheel over. This will more than likely take a couple of hours to do it. If you machine has the 60hp Deutz, it shouldn't be a problem running 1100's as I have many customers who run these teeth with 60hp.

Hope this helps!

Thanks Dave for the reply I have a 44hp older 4400. The bearings and shaft are installed correctly another half inch to the other side would put the poly chain sprocket in the guard. I just installed some reverse angles along with straights gonna see how it cuts here in a few minutes

I just ground two medium size red oaks and it works great I really wasn't sure how it would do with just straights and reverse angles on the wheel. The greenteeth straight pockets are just 1/4" narrower in width than the original angled square teeth. I think I will be able to cut a little faster taking a bigger bite with less bog down on my machine.
