Just purchased 8018 TRX duetz 78 hp, 233 hours, think it a 2006.

Has anyone tried this unit in an enclosed trailer? I have my 352 in a 7x14 with 7000 gvw, and it works great. The Carlton is 5400#'s and not sure if the ramp gate would even support this, even if heavy duty gate on a 10000 gvw trailer.

I also have green teeth 1100 red on this machine, and am not familiar with them. They are set up with teeth in every two sets , then nothing, then two sets and skip one.... should all holes on wheel have pockets and teeth?

Any answers to these questions or general advice on the 8018 would be appreciated. I run a stump grinding business in CT, have had 4 Vermeers, and this is my first Carlton. 2 days with it so far, and it is impressive.

Thanks, Jeff

Have you actually checked the weight of your 8018? I always thought the 4,300 lbs that Carlton listed for the 7015 was a little light. I had the grinder by itself on a truck scale today and it was 4,840. That's 540 lbs more than Carlton says!! Your 8018 might weigh much more than 5,400.

That said, I think having it in an enclosed trailer is perfect for a stump grinder. I would get a 10k trailer and then just worry about getting the gate strong enough to hold it.

I would think you should have teeth in every hole but don't have experience with the greenteeth on a larger machine.

I use an enclosed trailer for my 7015. I decided I had better go with an all steel trailer, as the enclosed aluminum trailers, even the really good ones, are not all that sturdy. I also got one with the double doors that swing open to each side. The drop down doors will never hold up to the weight of one of these heavy track grinders. Then, I had the rear cross member under the floor reinforced to handle the weight of the machine as it comes up onto the floor. I had a pair of heavy duty ramps built from heavy aluminum channel stock. This alum. channel is about the same width as each rubber track. Each has a pin that fits into the back channel member of the trailer. With these modifications, my trailer works great for the 7015. I think if you get a steel trailer with a pair of 5200lb. axles, and do a few modifications to the rear end, you will be in good shape with the bigger machine.

Sounds like a good move on the trailer. I just bought a used 8018 and orderd a 6X12 tandem open trailer for it.

I would go to a 12k steel bed skidsteer trailer if i were you. its better to have some cushion in cases you hit a pothole. also go to carltons website and download the manual for your machine. you should have a pocket and teeth for every hole on wheel. sounds like someone was trying tpo save a few bucks on teeth at the expense of efficiency and cutting speed
