HI, have husky 141 with 3/8 lp chain . saw runs sweet and strong .Time for a new chain. Now do you guys have preference for calton or oregon chain.
Thanks in advance.

I believe that the Stihl PM (not PM1) is a very good choise in 3/8" lo-pro.

Whatever brand the chain is, avoid those with safety bumpers on the tie straps.

On the Husky 141, the best cutting attachment probably are .325 narrow kerf, like Oregon 95VP=Husky H30. Oregon, husky and Carton all have bars for this type of chains.

The Bailey's 30LP I think is a Carlton chain and it is awesome, really nasty though if you're not used to pro saw chain. If you're well used to handling a saw I would recommend that. It cuts like no other 3/8" Lo Pro I have ever used.

The two are similar in cutter shape and kerf width but I like the Carlton better... It has 25-30% more tooth!

I like Carlton (Woodsman Pro) over Oregon. It holds its edge longer in the dirty conditions that I am working in.

Don't forget to check your drive sprocket. If your sprocket is worn out you may damage your new chain. :chainsaw:

The Low Pro must be light years ahead of the 3/8th chisel. It has to be the most ununiform stuff know to man. Hard teeth, soft teeth. Man what a fiasco.

Well, most users of Low Pro are either pro arborists or homeowners. The pros buy the good stuff or just live with crappy performance for teh small cuts they make with it. the homeowners buy the low kick crap. I like Carlton and Stihl. I've run plenty of 91VG and Stihl 63PM1, both good, but much slower than the Carlton. Heard lots of good stuffa bout 91VS. SOme Oregon dealers won't sell 91VS to a non pro,a nd my Stihl dealer swears 63 PM doesn't exist. maybe I need to show him the catalogue and part #. I don't want to come off as a know it all d-bag though. inmost other areas he knows light years more about saws and power equipment than me. So there's my beliefs about the variabilitya nd lower quality.

Around here, the Stihl dealers doesn't stock 63PM1, 63PM and PMX only.

On the flip side, the Husky dealers doesn't stock the "good" 91VS or 91V - crappy 91VG only......

Carlton is not easily available here.

holes in drive links

Thanks i will stick with carlton then ,do the holes in oregon chain make much difference , i know they are designed to improve lubrication.

Regarding the holes in the drive links: when they were field tested the first thing the users noticed was, "more oil spray off the tip of the bar".

The user comments indicated that the holes do a better job (than a drive link without a hole) picking up oil in the groove and transporting the oil around the bar. Oil that would normally have been soaked up by wood chips in the bottom of the groove is picked up by the holes and distributed as the chain travels.

Anyone out there have any observations to add?

Oregon Engineer, I like the 72LG a lot better than the Carlton A1L chain. I think the 72LG is consistent and a clean looking chain. I would love to see a longer tooth on the 91VS chain, One of my Reps said in the future. Is this TRUE? I have been buying some Windsor 3/8" Low Pro for our arborists. I would love to have it labeled Oregon (mainly to eliminate some Vendors). Thanks for a fine chain. Tony
