Job Summary:
The Tree Care Coordinator supervises tree care contracted services and contract staff, coordinates work with CPC managers, and supervises emergency response tree efforts. The Tree Care Coordinator also works with city wide agencies such as NYC DOT, MTA, NYC Parks & Recreation and NYPD.

Essential Job Functions:
• Plan, prioritize, assign, supervise, and review all tree care work contracted with vendors
• Prepare, administer and manage contracts with the external vendors responsible for ongoing park maintenance
• Monitor the work of crews and provide technical advice and assistance as needed
• Communicate effectively with the general public and employees, in oral and written form.
• Enter completed work into tree care database system
• Respond to park patron concerns, problems or complaints in a timely manner, maintaining a customer service philosophy that is responsive and maintains a positive public image.
• Respond to emergency situations in the park as they occur, including weekends and holidays
• Maintain a visible profile in the park and with employees through field visits and inspection of park facilities
• Maintain a safe and controlled work zone
• Perform all required ground, climbing, and aerial lift duties as directed
• Prune trees according to ANSI A300 pruning standards
• Operate an aerial lift truck
• Participate in special events in the park
• Enter relevant tree data into tablet computer for recordkeeping

Minimum Requirements:
• Associates or Bachelors Degree in Arboriculture or a related field, minimum 2 years experience in tree care maintenance and supervisory experience.
• Ability to work flexible hours including weekends and holidays as needed.
• Valid US Driver’s License.
• Within one year of appointment, employee must possess a class B Commercial Driver License. The Class B Driver License must be maintained for the duration of employment
• ISA Certification preferred, NYC DEC certified applicator a plus
• Possess a fundamental understanding and knowledge of tree physiology using modern arboricultural practices. Knowledge of IPM tree care management principles, including Dutch Elm Disease.
• Ability to lead and mobilize others into action providing support, training, mentoring and evaluation.
• Knowledge of principles of supervision and employee motivation
• Knowledge of safe work practices, OSHA requirements, and laws pertaining to parks maintenance.
• Ability to think critically and solve problems with efficiency and professionalism.
• Ability to “multitask” to handle competing priorities and demands.
• Ability to establish and facilitate effective working relationships with employees and contractors
• Verbal and written communication skills to develop reports
• Knowledge of operation of outdoor mechanical equipment
• Performs additional responsibilities as needed
• Basic computing skills, spreadsheets and word processing.
