Chainsaw chains!

[Local # 17 T.T.]

I am a little unclear about matching the correct chains to the correct bars/sprockets. I've been told to count the drive links, but I don't know if that will give me all the info I need. I also know the pitch & gauge play in there somewhere. Also, is there anywhere I can find the correct file to chain size. Thanks!
