Im making some chainsaw holsters(for lack of better word), but im having trouble thinking about the best way to attach them to a tractor/atv. Ill post pics of them tomorow, i have the pieces cut and layed out, just have to bore them out. about 15 ready to make tomorow, plan on giving a few to family, and seeing if the rest will sell. Im thinking about 10-15bucks a piece until i find a better way to attach them then just bolting them on...maybe U bolts? i dont know, any ideas are welcome!

I use a Kolpin chainsaw vice that I got a Cabella's for around $70. It will not hold much more than what I have in it. It uses a flat plate which attaches to the rack using U bolts.

I paid $40 for the kolpin vise and it's going back tomorrow for a refund. Completely worthless at an angle or horizontally.

Make a saw holder.
Get a piece of wood. study application surface topography. saw wood accordingly to fit. secure wood with road kill bungees or bailing string. bore in wood. turn saw off. Shouldn't cost much more than a few ozs of gas.

I won't let my powerhead flop around on a bar like that.

I've got a couple ideas for better holders, I just haven't been home to make them.

Yes I'm making mine out of wood. Ill take pics and walk you guys through how I'm doing it. I would rather make my own then spend $50 on it. Plus if mine work out, I can sell them cheap. I tried boring them out, but the rough cut lumber I'm using is old and hard, seems like its rough on the saw. And to be completely honest I didn't bore it very straight...:bang:

Ok i start out with a piece of rough cut lumber, whatever extra my dad has. Saw them into 16 or 12" lengths.

Varying from saw to saw, you want to leave about an inch of the nose of the bar sticking out, so when you do the later cut the saw will fit properly, youll understand what i mean in the next pics. On my 20" bar it worked out for the holster to be 16" with the dogs n all.

After this i measured how tall the saw blade was with the chain. it was about 4". So i cut a piece off going with the grain. This piece will later be screwed on at the top.

Im going to take the bigger part of the remaining piece and put it in a vice, and cut 4 1/4 inches or so down to hold the saw, rather then trying to bore it out. Then ill screw the top piece in. Now i have to figure out how to make these easy to mount onto tractors/atv's/etc. There oughta be enough room for a couple bolts on either side, i think...
