My ms880 leaked badly once. I was not going to fuss with it in the middle of the winter. Fast forward a couple of months, and the leak was gone.

My 261 is now leaking, but for the first time this past winter I hung it from a loop thru the handle. I'm thinking that might have caused the leak, so off the hook and I'll wait and see if the leak goes away before I start taking things apart.

Tank vent leak makes the most sense in my case. The saws just stored level rightside up don't leak.

However to prevent thieves I hang many of my saws by the handles on spikes driven in a large barn beam. A logging chain through the handles is wrapped around the beam and locked in place. Sometimes for a long time.

Saws that sit a long time as such in the barm go through temperature swings. I have to check the bar scabbards when I take them down. Some have enough oil to make a mess.
