My second go around with making my own mill. This one is for my 32" bar. I made it adjustable so it can be used on anything from an 18" to a 36" bar. Found some things I didn't like about my first mini mill so I changed them on this one. I replaced the bolts that clamp the mill to the bar with carriage bolts as they would catch on the bark of the log. I also added a "roller" to the leading edge of the clamp closest to the saw to keep it rolling smoothly over bark and knots. Any advice, tips or general criticism are always welcome.

I like your design. Could you give a desciption of the size and thickness of the material you are using? Maybe a total amount of each used. Not being able to tig weld, I am stuck with mild steel. Some of the material looks to be 1/8". Do you think you could go thinner on any parts to save weight? Link to version 1.0?

13' of 1x1x1/8" and a foot of 1.5x1.5x3/16. Could go thinner on the 1x1 but they don't keep it in stock here and I don't like to wait. The heavy 1.5" stuff was just stuff I had here. Trying to find steel that will fit inside other steel and work smoothly is almost impossible using this welded seam hot rolled stuff so I have a little "adjustment room" where the 1" goes through the 1.5" Total cost to build it including the 3/8's hardware was less than $16. I have pictures on my phone of the entire building process and I can give dimensions if you would want them.

Nice mill set up, simple and effective on the cheap. My next adventure is a carriage mill.

Some good mods there.

Your fixed wheel arrangement will unfortunately be effective when cutting only some of the upper part of the log.

The arrangement below covers both sides of the log.
It's not as complicated as it looks to make and it works really well.

That saw wasn't free, I was paid to take it, LMAO. The deal with that saw put the saw in my shed and $139 profit in my pocket. Pretty good day. That elm looks good once you get it cleaned off and get it wet to see the grain.

Nice mill

Tip: if you put one bolt in the corner instead of two on each side, heightadjustment will be quicker.
