I have a band mill that i use to cut beams and lumber but the thought crossed my mind that a small csm may be perfect for making the rip cut for a timber frame tenon. Have any of you chainsaw millers done this before? how did it work? I can pick up a used csm locally for what i think is a really good price.

My cousins in Italy have used small portable bandsaws with a simple jig to set cut width and depth to cut tenons on the large timber frame roofs and structures but before they had these they used small chainsaws and did it free hand.

These days they use a Hundeger Mill that auto handles and cuts lumber up to 24 x 24 " x 40 ft long to mill the frames. That thing will turn out whole houses with all the mortise/tenons/dovetails/holes etc

That Hundeger Mill looks very impressive but way over my hobby paygrade. I think im going to try the Chainsaw mill to make the cheek cut after i cut the shoulder with a circular saw.
Sounds like they build some serious stuff?
