Over the years I have run Stihl, Poulan, Opti 1, and some others I forget. Basically I buy locally and am pretty much stuck with what the mower shop or the hardware shop next door has. Today I asked for Opti 1 but all the shop had was Oregon "it's the same stuff". I have no doubt it is just as good. The question is:

What (if any) is the effect on the saw of varying types of oil??

Some will disagree with this statement for sure.................... Your saw has no memory or favorite flavor of oil, as long as there is sufficient oil to keep the machine lubricated you will be fine. I personally use Mobil MX2T because I can get it cheaper than the Stihl or Husky oil and I run it at 32:1 and don't have a soot problem. Switch back and forth between brands and no harm will come of this practice.
