I was talking with a buddy of mine who lives near Harrisonville MO the other day, and he mentioned that he has a BUNCH of tree trimming to do in his pasture, with most of it being about 20 feet off the ground.

We are occasional rock climbing buddies, so I of course brought up the idea of climbing with a top handle saw, but he asked me if I had ever climbed a hedge tree. End of discussion. Climbing amid thorns is NOT on my list of authorized procedures, for the record.

He was looking at a Stihl on a stick at the local dealer for about 7 bills. I told him about my old Power Pruner with an Echo motor, and its enormous reach when coupled with the optional 5 foot extension. Yah, that's what he wants. 17 feet of pure remote-arm sawing he11......... that is one heavy dude when it is fully extended. It takes a certain kind of knucklehead to use one these on a regular basis!

Is there anyone in the area of KC/Harrisonville/Clinton Missouri who has one of these to sell, or who knows a good reputable Power Pruner local dealer? I do not know the area, and though my buddy does have a few older chainsaws, he is not really plugged into the OPE enthusiasts' network.
His name is Fred, a great guy. Post or PM any ideas, and I will facilitate contact. Muchas gracías, Señores.

Hope yer all havin' a good weekend. Don't let the siren song of the recliner, TV, and cold beer keep you away from the timber, which so desperately needs taming......:greenchainsaw:

I am still performing open-roof surgery, and there is rain forecast on and off. Gotta love it, I am thankful for visqueen on my roof right now!

Hey, where do you get the letters with the little hats on them? All I've got is squiggles and %@&*# swearwords on my computer keys.

On a Mac, there is a key with the word "option" written on it. I hold that key down and type a letter, and there is a whole list of alternative symbols.

œ∑´®†¥¨ˆøπ“‘«
åß∂ƒ©˙∆˚¬…æ
Ω≈ç√∫˜µ≤≥÷

These are the three letter rows typed with the option key held down. THe number row is below:

`¡™£¢∞§¶•ªº–≠

More stuff there than I will ever use.

There is a way to do these with a PC, but I do not know what it is.

It's called the ASCII character set... Hold down your alt button and press any number (up to 3 digits I think) and you'll get these other characters. If you want to know which character specifically, you'll need to look at an ascii table, then all you have to do is hold down the alt key and key in the corresponding number for the character that you're looking for.

So, if you want an â Just hold down the alt key, and press 131

Sorry to hijack the thread... just thought he might want to know.. :)

More characters

On a Mac click "edit", bottom of the list is "special characters". Quite a collection!! ¿ ✺ ☝

Windows should have a comparable list (maybe more...)

My local rental shop has a Husky trimmer with a long reach. Not sure how much, but it is a bunch. Works pretty well I am told.

Our "chainsaw on a stick" of choice for our Hedgerows is :

pull up to hedge and rake bucket right down the tree. Works great.

lots of guys that have one of those sitting idle right now. I'm sure there is someone that would do quite a bit of "scraping" on a hedgerow for $700. It won't have to be done again for years. Using a pole saw would be like taking a slingshot to a gunfight.

There was a video awhile back of a guy who made a contraption with a big extension ladder, a tractor with a loader bucket and a little Homelite, like a Ranger. He had the saw tied to the end of the ladder and extended it out a good 25 ft and had a string to work the throttle. It looked like it worked fairly well!
