my son is 15 and he has been splitting for me since he was about 9 but he was not ready for a saw.

he is getting big enough ,strong enough and I have started him on some simple bucking .

I have a set of PPE for him but I have been looking for more training information , I just found a class about 90 minutes away and I am still thinking I may try and get him to that.

but in the mean time I was poking around the internet and found this series of videos put out by BC work safe.

I know there are some other more brief videos I have seen but this seems well put together.

so for those new to running a chainsaw and or heating with wood I thought I would put this out here to better educate.

wen you get looking at notches a few degrees difference one way or another is hard to see the purpose and use and what happens in slow motion but this series of videos does a nice job of showing the what and why of falling.

yes I think some of the techniques have changed a little smaller under cut than the 1/3 taught in these videos is one but still god stuff.

this is video 1 of 17 in the series once youtube has you on this one it should have them in a list down the side.

I thought this was a thread asking for videos, and I came here to post the BC fallers standard series. I'm far from an expert or seasoned veteran cutter, but this series sure helped me when I was first getting started and didn't know much other than what I learned anecdotally and from friends.

A lot of the BC videos are based on falling big trees.
A lot of junk on YouTube, but also some other good resources. I listed some that I like in another forum - will copy some of the links here:
