Why would you want to?

You're adding orders of magnitude to problems associated with service life and safety. What happens when a chain snaps at 17000 rpm? Will the clutch take it? Will the bearings or rotating assy?

That said, make certain the fuel/air gets in and around the engine, and burned fuel out (port work).
Then work on the ign system. Most chain saw ign systems are barely adequate to the task. Cobble something together from a 50cc motorcycle or better yet, work out one of the solid-state advancing units the model airplane racers use.

And don't let your friends stand too close....

Yeah, 4-5 minutes is about right with Brian's method. At six minutes the piston melts and at 6.2 minutes it welds itself to the cylinder wall.

While you are hopping your saw up, rabbit, let me show you how to get your car to run 10000 rpms:rolleyes:

one thing to think about rabbit is this..
most motors can be turned way up... but unless an educated hand does it ,,the motor will still find its best torque,, rpm,
when under load.... this for 4 stroke motors more than 2 stroke ,,i guess... with 2 strokes ,they tend to just quit if u been playin to much with the h l screws.
good luck.
