i was looking at getting a set of chaps that wrap around the calf, or some that are stiffer at the bottom and will not rotate around that much. does anyone have opinions on brands/models? price isn't an issue since i'm a newbie and we're talking about saving body parts here.

I bought a set of husky chaps from lowe's as some temporary ones, but they were so flimsy it felt like you could slice them with a warm butter knife and the bottoms were easily spun around when bending over, needless to say they were returned shortly after

thanks for any info

thanks for that, looks like they're pretty good showing a video of the results too, think i'll get a set of those 850kp's and they're a great price

I have Labonville chaps. I find them tight around the boot, even with the straps fully extended. The tightness makes it awkward to kneel down, say if you are flush cutting a stump. But I'm not using a saw all the time. If I was using it more, I would wear my slash pants, but they are too hot so I don't wear them more than I need to.

I don't find that to be the case on mine but I have the Large, maybe the XL. What size are yours?

are the regular chaps stiff enough so they won't spin around easily, or do you guys recommend the wrapped ones? the ones we use for the Forest Service are pretty stiff and i don't think they've ever tried to move around on me.

i'm still up in the air on which ones to get but i do need to get on the ball cause there's some work to be done and the new saw will be here this week :greenchainsaw:

I use the labonville extreme chaps for work...and play. They do not spin on me are are a nice fit, i have the extra long ones and am 6'. are a little warm on the hot days, but the peace ofmind knowing that chain WILL stop.

yeah comfort is the last of my worries, i'm a stickler for safety gear as you only get one chance to put it on. if you need it and it's not on, too bad.

so you wear the 36" ? i'm 6' as well and have worn anything from 32-36", usually whatever is available when needed. my biggest concern was just from the cheap husky ones i tried spinning around. maybe that was because they were just poly and not a kevlar? they were pretty flimsy

the labonville chaps are good.

if you want a little tighter fitting pair of chaps, elvex makes a good pair. pricey though.

i've switched to the inside the pants chaps - more FOM and less snagging in that damn greenbriar.

they measure from your waist to the top of your foot. Mine are about right, i wouldn't want the next one up as they would be too long. The next shorter than mine, troutfisher uses, i tried his on and were way too small. I'd get the extra long ones and you should be ok as next one up is another 4", way too long for me.
