Do you use chaps?

i can see the purpose for them , however i never use them because i find them dangerous.

I have been running a chainsaw for a very longtime and i have never been cut , thank the the Lord.

I have seen people who have chaps and they have been cut far to manytimes.

This is the reason i never use chaps , i have a healthy respect for the danger involved when using a chainsaw, i dotn take it for granted and therefore i have never had a need for chaps ,

my thinking is that if i get used to wearing them i will lose that respect and if i cut without them i will be alot more likely to get cut because i will be vunerable.

Right On Abbershay, I agree with you 100%

I don't use safety equip of any kind and that doesn't just go for tree work. I don't wear a safety belt or use condoms, hell I'm not even an organ donor. I think that if you practice safety, your making an implied contract with fate that you'll have an accident and I won't be anyone's (or any greater power's) willing victim.

I'd really like to write "All kidding aside, I know what you mean." But I can't so...this is the best I can do--->;)

I hope you never get cut Bro.

theres are big difference between something falling on you and using a chainsaw properly. you are rude.

I have considered using chaps i have nothign against them but they can make you alot less cautious when working.

i do wear a hard hat but mainly for the muffs, the hat is really a false sence of security, no amount of safety gear replaces being careful.(my point)
i suppose you wear one of those mushroom head helmets to ride your bike to. If you believe that you should really wear one while walking or riding in a car as well.....

Dont want to fight but you are acting like a smart alleck.

safety

What you wear does not make you more or less safe. Continue to operate safely and consider the chaps as an extra safety margin. If your going to get sloppy because you don a piece of safety equipment and get a false sense of security, then you need to re evaluate your way of thinking.

its just an oppinion and obseration....

notice chaps should never have any cuts in them if they do then you are working without being careful enough.

I use to wear chaps but they get annoying after a while. And plus they make your legs sweat. They are good if u carve wood (wood artist.) But other than that u shouldnt need them because u should no how to run a saw.

I've been running saws for over 10 years, and never cut myself. I've only been wearing chaps for the past 3 years. Still haven't cut myself. I have seen chaps absorb a kickback from an 066, it resulted in a scratch that required a band aid. Another guy I work with took a hit from a smaller saw. No injury at all. I've seen the scars on people who got bit without chaps, and man are they ugly. Chaps are no substitute for being a competant saw operator, but they are a part of it. Safety is an attitude first, and man, you don't have it.

Buy some good suspenders and a guy canwear chaps, not only are they comfortable but nobody can see that you're wearing them. Chaps should be worn as a hardhat should and the other standard PPE its to bad that some folks lok upon it as a regulation that is imposed upon them, How about NFL players having a question about wearing shoulder pads, sure they can still play football, ....but.
