Need some pros & cons on a chevy/Kodiak 6500. has the Cat. engine with auto tranny, air brakes, etc.. very clean truck, my concern is the auto tranny.... how well do they hold up?

Ive checked all else out & seems good but the auto tranny is where im at & will be the deal breaker or maker! any info on these units would be greatly appreciated......guys asking $8000.00 obo

We have an 90s Isuzu cabover reefer truck at work with nearly 300,000 miles and it has the Alison 545 auto , its gutless as hell but it still shifts .
 
What Cat engine does it have, and what year model is the truck? Quite a few of the Kodiak trucks were equipped with a cheap, throwaway Cat engine that did not last long. The engine was not rebuildable and a replacement engine is very expensive. Most older Kodiaks, from the 80's and 90's, were pretty junky when they got a little age on them. The newer ones seem pretty well built, but, a lot of them still use a throwaway Cat engine.

It has an Isuzu inline six cylinder engine in it .
 
It sounds OK to me. The Cat 3116 is JUNK! Auto trans are OK they are gutless beyond remorse. Weller remans The Allisons for 2K and up so its not terribly expensive. I always bypass the governor adjust and by a block from weller that holds the hydro governor to max gives a later firmer shift. The Isuzu 6 cyl is a good motor pricey when they break but all diesels are.
 
Im not sure on the engine as to if its a 3116 or not?? I believe its a 98-99?? but I will check on the engine make, thanks!
