Hello,

I have a relic morbark chipper that loves to eat logs. However it doesnt like to eat smaller green limbs and shoots them out whole until they clog the chute up. I even get large chunks of wood spit out when im chipping sawmill end slabs.

The chipper has an infeed at a 45 degree angle from the disc. The anvil follows this angle where it meets the disc.

It just dawned on me that the anvil can be flipped to creat a 90 degree angle (perpindicular) to the disc and this may solve my issues. I have never ran it this way.

You can see the anvil photos where there are old rusty/ plugged holes that line up with the flange mount if i flit it. Hardfacing is where the anvil is currently ran at / 45 degree orientation.

Note: new sharp blades with 1/8 in gap to anvil

Any advice or insight is appreciated

Or possibly i need to grind through all that hardfacing someone put on the anvil to get a true sqaure edge again...

Some are square edged some are 45 deg edged but those have 4 cutting edges ( the edge is only 1/3 of that side) I have never seen one with a full 45 deg Allthough I have had a couple come in for regrinding that were a 5 deg slope ( oem spec) off brand do not remember name. Might want to look up a replacement unit just to see a picture of it or call them to find out.

I flipped my anvil years ago. My chipper is 12" drum chuck and duck that did the same thing as yours does. The anvil was worn badly and never flipped over. Set now at 0.035 to the new blades. Four new knives with pretty steep angles on those. My anvil is square.
