I am brainstorming some ideas that would allow me to remove the box top. I use the dump for other hauling and its a pain in the butt. Does anyone use any other option? I thought either a roll away tarp or a chute extension.

when I first started my tree business, I use a 1 ton dump truck with a roll up mesh tarp.you could use bungee cords along the sides and tie that tarp down, and you could chip in to a all day long I never have a problem with it. If you needed to put something else in there like a tree stump or loaded with a loader you could just roll the tarp back up. I still have one that I use that way when needed.I also welded stake pockets inside the dump body so I can make the sides removable.

Thats what i was thinking. I have 2 2x12's on each side now. I was going to try a mesh tarp across the top.

I have 5 2x10's on the sides and 2 in the front. Chips are light, dont limit yourself. From the floor to the top of my sideboards is around 66inches if I recall.

get yourself a chain fall and put it up in a high enough branch then you can take your chip box on and off as you please. My friends shop where I keep all my stuff he has an electric one and it worked great now he has a fork lift and that's even better so we can move the box around.

I use a PVC tarp on mine. It takes a few minutes to untie it, but I don't take it off that often just sometimes if I've got a crane on site and loading logs, or sometimes can block down palms straight into the box. The tarp cost about $100 and I made some cross bars to support it. It keeps the water out and the dust in. It lasts a long time, a year or more and looks ok. Mesh will let your truck get filthy and will let your box fill with rain water.
