im looking at adding a metal asplundh chipper box from a 60 series chevy onto my 93 f450 dump. how much work would it be to make it fit into the stake pockets? cutting it down and rewelding it is no problem and i do alot of metal fab work. Are they double skinned, etc..?

I would like to make a aluminum, but the price is rediculous. and wood is out of the question.

Metal is better but wood can look good and function well if it's built right. My wood chip box looks better than a lot of rusty metal ones out there. It's a matter of taking the time to keep it looking good. A little paint can make a wood box look like new again. The one on my truck is now 2 years old an due for a paint job next spring but other than that it looks and functions just fine (and it only cost me a day's work and $250 to build - barn doors and all). The box attaches via the stake pockets and is easily removable yet stays in place when dumping chips out.

Back to your question - I have a question of my own...why not remove the bed you have on there now and mount the asplund box and hoist to your truck? Are you wanting a removable box or does the asplund box not have a hoist?

i want to make it removable as it is one of the landscaping a,d sander trucks.

My ideal box later on, is that the top would have doors on each side so i can load materials suck as rock or mulch without taking the box of.

The asplundh box is already off of a truck without the hoist assembly under it.
