There was a thread a while back regarding what you all are doing with the wood you mill. They mostly revolved around large projects like cabins, sheds, workshops, and furniture.

Since Christmas is coming I was wondering if some of you may have small to medium projects you have done that are suitable as gifts.

I need some ideas.

I am still holding this in my mind... but my wife has asked for a chess-board for years!!!!

Walnut for the dark squares and maple/birch for the light squares...???

Just an idea...

Also, there is a poster in this forum that makes blanks for pens that looked really cool...

My father once had a letter opener that was made from wood... very cool... I always wondered what happened to it!

I love trinket boxes! Odd sizes and shapes...

That said... I am working on indoor plumbing for my family! An indoor toilet means love.... well, you know what I mean!!!!<grin>

Cheers,

I have woodturning lathe so I make stuff like bowls, handles for cheese and pate knives etc.

A few other things I have made
Stuff with natural edges is a good way to use up what normally goes for firewood.

Keyed Chairs.

These keyed chairs are pretty simple and can be customized. I make them is sizes for adults and children. These are finished lumber but live edge slabs make wonderful looking chairs.

The shelves are all natural twisted Sycamore and bookends the uprights are bookend larvae eaten White Ash.

I have no woodworking skill nor tools other than a couple dozen saws.

I take scraps & make pens. I can buy a pen kit online for $5-$10 and put together a really cool & classy pen in just an hour or so. I use super glue for the finish and it polishes out to be a very glossy clear coat. My wife (active duty USAF) displays hers on her desk at work, and now i'm making pens for all the big wigs as awards or going away/retirement gifts. They're easy to make (especially easy for me as I have some cool equipment) and they look like a million bucks.
