Actually it's going to be a pedastal bird bath for outside. The planks are 2" thick. The column is going to be about 2' tall. I milled the log a couple months ago, but the tree has been dead standing for at least 3 years, to the point some of the wood is kinda punky. I know that it's still pretty wet, even though it was dead standing. To help keep some strain on the wood to stay straight, I'm making 2 star like bolts to secure it top and bottom. I'm taking a 1/2 inch nut and welding a smaller bolt to each flat of the nut. So, it will look like a star. I'm going to make 2 of these. As I put the six pieces of wood together I'll drill a hole six or eight inches from the top and bottom, and thread the boards over them. On the outside, finished surface, I'll use fancy brass castle nuts and some sort of fancy filagree plate to pull the column together and tight. Then I'm going to take a piece of 1/2 inch all thread and run it through the center nuts to hold the top and bottom on. I hope that made sense. It does in my head. One of these days I'll learn hw to do graphics on here, Joe.
