What is the best way to clean the air filter on my Stihl 021 it has a plastic frame with a type of fabric covering.

Thanks, Shawn

Dust it off. If it's really dirty and oil soaked, hot soapy water, or diluted purple cleaner. Don't scrub it.. soak it then blow it out with a compressor.

Dust it off?

Would you mean to dust it off, with like a small broom or brush? I used a brass brush before I posted, but got to thinking is this the best way? (because that was what I had that was clean) it got most of the layer of sawdust off, but it is far from clean, but it runs better!

Small brush. brass will tear/fluff up the filter making it trap more. If it's really bad, buy another - only about $7..
