I was wondering if people have any thoughts regarding a couple of issues I'm struggling with at the moment.

(i) Should the use of a bowline within a climbing system be secured with a tieoff of somekind i.e. yosemite, or a stopper knot i.e. figure 8? If yes, could this be deemed an unsafe system to climb on?

(ii) At what point (in degrees from vertical) would it be necessary to use a secondary perminant lanyard or climbing line to prevent against a pendulum swing? If a perminant system was deemed necessary how would you then ascend a secondary stem to the same height as your main anchor point?

I have unclear thoughts on these issues & would appreciate any comments to help resolve my indecision.

Many thanks

yes you can tie a bowline into a biner or snap and put it on your saddle...and with any knot you place you life on a back up stopper knot in not a bad idea.
to your 2nd question i would say its based on your experience and how far of a swing you are comfortable with, the tree is a factor as well. i mean its all so variant. just make sure when you make a cut out on the limb that you tie in twice so that a miscalculation wont send you tumbling trough space with a running chainsaw.

Nod to your second question. I'm familiar w/ the scenario you speak of, and the best solution i can come to is using two lanyards. Either DEDA or two seperate. This way you could just alternate lanyards as you go up.
You could also use the tail of your climbing line as a second tie in, and use it as the second lanyard, this is what i would most likely do. This would keep you from having to carry another lanyard for the entire climb.
