I am thinking of buying a mimono climbing device to replace my tautline hitch that I currently use. It is apparently good for ascending & descending. Has anyone out there had any experience with this.

Never heard of mimono. I asked Google and she had know idea what I was talking about. Got any pictures?

Thanks Rockey for the advice, please excuse me if I sound stupid but what is a vt hitch. I had only about 2 days of training by a hydro employee and have learned everything else by reading in books & going out & doing it.

I've climbed on the M with good results. Like any friction device, there are lots of variables that have to be in order for you to optimize the use of the M .

The M is rope-dependant. Be sure to use the right rope with it.

Your body weight might be to light or too heavy to get optimal performance.

One limitation is that, since its a closed tool, you can't put it on mid-line, you have to thread the rope. I never found that to be an issue. Since most climbers who used advanced friction hitches don't untie this is a moot point.

mimono device

This device is a solid state (no moving parts) climbing device.
The LJ has moving parts but both are mechanical climbing "knots"
the mimono seemed like a great tool- until I realized that you have to thread it onto the rope to use it. If that is not a problem it may work out for you.
I have not heard any constructive crit. about it though.

I'm with Bryan on using friction hitches. I used a mimono prototype a few years ago, and liked it.

As Tom has said in tha past, it's replacing $20 of rope hitch system. Do the advantages really make up for the cost?

I would encourage you to lear the swabish/distal and VT configurations before investing in in a mechanical device.

Maybe you could contract with Lauren and Dave of VP to help you advance in your climbing skills.

Thanks again everyone for your advice, I picked up a mimono today and tried it out, it is much easier to ascend on then the th but the descent can be fairley rapid the first time you use it although after going up & down with it few times I got to like it.
