ive been thinking; is there a way to adapt/create a winch system for SRT/DDRT? im thinking along the lines of the ropetek Wraptor idea but hand operated. i was thinking it would be good for those with wrecked shoulders who couldnt pull rope all day.

it would have some sort of redundant safety like a friction hitch tie off and maybe a built in micro pulley. would be small, aluminum, one way ratcheting handle (probably removable). think of an ocean size fishing reel looking kinda thing. could be set inline or standalone and taken out once at working height.

thoughts? takers? flames?

my shoulders are fine for now. i was aiming it more at those who have been doing this a long time and maybe dont want to switch careers. granted yes it would be far more tiring than say a proper climb with flipline and spurs up a nice lodgepole pine. what about those times when someone has to climb the rope instead of the tree such as a west coast monster? seems like it would be better than some climb systems out there.

if your trying to sell this idea to old time climbers, your first problem is gonna be old time climbers are very set in there ways for the most part.

Clean that wrapter up. There twigs and leaves stuck all over it. Or is that your camp so the trees don't see you coming? Lol

think I saw James Bond use one like your talkin about. If I remember right it was super fast too, and quiet...stealth mode rapid ascent.

Well on ddrt i was thinking almost a direct drive so it would be relatively fast. Less effort than the texas kick or something similar. Ill have to play around with some things and let you know...

A system that relies on leg strength to go up rope relieves the load on arms and shoulders.

The young guys can have the Secured foot lock tech.
Fat bastards like me need to figure out how to get around up in the tree for taking hardwoods down. I like the RADS system. When used with a doubled rope system, tho its slow its safe and stable with a minimum amount of gear to store on the saddle when working
