Today we had a medium sized Crimson King removal and i didn't feel like climbing so another guy that has some climbing experience volunteered. It wasn't that big so he decided to just use a 2 in 1 lanyard with a prussic which was fine he cut a few low branches off and worked his way up, he was about 20 feet up when he came to a crotch and he was just about the alternate his lines when i looked up and noticed he still had his micro pulley attached to his lanyard, i hollered up to him just before he unclipped so he says "oops my bad", oops don't work for me so i told him to come down and i finished it up. Its gonna be a while before he climbs a tree again.

Good thing you were paying attention.
We just had a one day conference at the Vermeer dealer here in Georgia and the instructor demonstrated and advocated, when ever possible, putting a line in the tree and having a ground person tend the slack as you spike up the tree. It only takes a moment to set up and in this case would have saved his bacon had you not noticed.

As I'm new to all this riggin (personal climbing, "ascending /descending, working in the tree) gear. It seems like ALOT of stuff to keep track of while in the tree.
I've thot over the micro pulley on the flip line and decided it was a bad idea for me. Same with the 2in1 flipline .
At least for take downs.
For me, if I need to climb up past limbs then I need 2 flipline s
I like the KISS principal.

Good call, you may have saved his life, but probably some broken bones, torn tendons, muscles ect. I hope he thinks about it enough to thank you.

I have a couple 2n1's, but rarely use them. One of my climbers is using one of them and left his old school style on the truck, cept it is newer, has aluminum clips. I use that all the time and think I will trade him. The problem I have with the 2n1's is the prusik gets so freakin tight, I cant hardly move it. The micro is cool if your only adjusting in one direction. Gets caught on crap to much

Good eye man, even small falls can kill ya. Walmart chick fell off a 8ft ladder and hit her head, died instantly from TBI

I've only used 2n1's, as my lanyard, my whole climbing life. Yeah, the Prusik does get tight, no doubt about it, but you can just loosen it from time to time. A few seconds gone, to be sure, but it keeps things simple. While I know that it is in the best interests of supply companies to keep us buying each new (expensive) gadget that comes out, I stick to basics and never got into any metal climbing gizmos except for my clips.
