I'm looking for a bumper spike for the clutch cover on my 029. It has the holes. Dealer didn't know what I was talking about...

Some of you may ask why in the %$#@ does this guy want a bumper cover for a 029. My 044 has one and it looks cool:rock:

thanks!!

No one on AS is going to make you look silly by asking why you want to mod your saw. Heck, oughta call this place ES ..... EnablerSite.

Good luck in your quest,

Jack

I have double dawgs on all my saws except for the 192T even though if I thought I could put them on there I would. To put them on your 029 just order the ones for your 044 either from stihl or Baileys and find some small bolts and nuts plus some locktite and there you have it. 029 with double dawgs.
Jared

PM me if you have additional questions.

Don't put double dogs on the plastic side cover.

If you want dual dogs, upgrade to the Mag side cover found on the 026, 036, 044,046,066 etc pro saws. Then you have plenty of options...

BTW, the bolts and nuts for the outer dog - just order the genuine stihl bolts and deformed locknuts... Work real well and aren't expensive.

I rarely disagree with anything lake has to say but here it goes. I have an 029 I have used for years and years, It is my oldest saw and It just will not die. I put big dogs on the plastic cover a year ago because I decided to use the saw to cut stumps off level with the ground in an area that I bush hog. I and did not want to put my newer pro saws thru that abuse. I made a set of heavy duty dogs to go on the plastic cover. I was afraid it would break but figured if it did I would just get a metal cover. At first I was careful but it never even cracked and now I work the things pretty hard. Never had a problem. If you don't want to make them, like someone already said, the 044 dogs will fit.

The plastic side cover thing is interesting... If you ever break one and try to buy another, you can't get it new from Stihl... They will only sell you a mag cover. The plastic is only shipped with the saw. This goes for the 310 and 390 also.

That is interesting, I wonder why they do it that way?

I will say I would never buy a plastic replacement when metal is available.

I will also say that I fully expected to break my plastic cover but wanted to see how my home made dogs would work right away. To my surprise they have held up over a year. Maybe even more impressive is the fact that most of the stumps that I have cut flush with the ground have been over 36 inches in diameter and all have been oak. I can not kill that little 029, heck, I cant even break the plastic side cover.

The best "answer" I got was that they didn't want anyone buying the plastic covers as "spares" and puting them on the pro saws... I've seen 046's and 066 with the 029 side cover... and NO chain catcher..

In other words... lawyers... and liability.
