Things were chipping right along after the first startup of the season. I got through 90% of my large pile of branches when I noticed the sound of an rpm drop. Not the normal "under load" drop that happens when a 6" branch gets munched. More of a sound after you've disengaged the clutch and the cutter wheel is slowing down. But I never disengaged the clutch. I turned off the motor and let everything stop. Now the clutch lever won't engage the clutch with the final little bump over at the end. Just loosely rotates and hits a stop with no engagement. No smoke or bad smell like burning clutch.

Ideas? I'm pretty mechanical and plan to do the repair myself so I would appreciate any guidance. You know...the "make sure you don't loosen this part" or "be sure to replace that part while you have it apart" kind of stuff.

Thanks in advance!

What type of clutch do you have? It could be a Rockford, Twin Disc, NACD or Auto Mfg. Ect.... Each one has different adjustment procedures. For the first three there is a adjusting ring that you turn under the inspection cover. For the last one there is no adjustment except for the throwout bearing.
