I've just inherited by dad's little Remington Mighty Mite Automatic, and I'm breaking it down and cleaning it up. I know that the clutch needle bearing should be lubricated, but I'm not sure about the plate and shoes. It looks really dry inside the cup, like there has been no lube used. I can imagine that there might be issues with the shoes grabbing adequately if it got very oily/greasy in there. Just wondering if something (silicon?) applied judiciously would be recommended.

Thanks!

grease on the bearing only, and if you need any parts let me know, I have a power head mighty mite for parts.

Got it.

Seems like it could make some sense, though, to just polish up the contact points between the plate and the shoes so that it slides as smoothly as possible when it spins out.

I just wipe the inside of the cup with Simple Green to get rid of the oil and debris.
Don't know if it's right or wrong but so far, no issues.
You don't want the clutch slipping excessively.
